Manatees are gentle giants that are threatened because of pollution, boating, and habitat loss. On one of my outings, I happened upon a chance to capture a close-up photo of one of these beautiful creatures without disturbing it (I am a bit superstitious and think seeing a Manatee is good luck 🙂). I had been in pursuit of images of water at the Rickenbacker Causeway in Miami. As I was crossing an underpass one morning, I came across this exceptional being. The sunlight was intense, yet just perfect. In the fleeting moment when the Manatee surfaced for a breath, I was able to capture the detailed patterns of the crystal-clear water as they rippled across the Manatee's back. I decided to name this piece "Manatee's World". This is a testament to the fascinating microcosm that flourishes on the back of a Manatee, a tiny world brimming with flora and fauna, existing independently but still bound to the vast world that surrounds it.
